After we saw online media explode with commentary on the new logo for the City of Amsterdam earlier this month, we decided that our community needed a chance to weigh in on options for the design with a Community Contest. And you did not disappoint. We received almost 1,900 entries from nearly 400 designers. THANK YOU!
Some designers chose to update the current logo with the 3 saltires while others submitted a totally fresh concept, and it was exciting to see both. We appreciate all your creativity and you made it very hard for us to pick a winner. But as usual, we finally found one:
Congratulations to the winner: SimplicityFirst
Well done! SimplicityFirst’s design resembles the canals as viewed from above, and includes the three saltires from the old logo. It is simple but elegant, and because the logo is for residents and not for tourists (who have the I AMsterdam logo), we like that the references to ‘typical’ Amsterdam elements are very subtle.
Honorable mention goes to: WIM design
A special thanks goes to designer WIM design, who submitted a very thought-out logo: the broken circle symbolizes Amsterdam’s canals and the different colors stand for the variety of elements that the City of Amsterdam has to offer.
