One year ago, 99designs acquired European design marketplace 12Designer, set up European headquarters in Berlin, and subsequently launched localized sites in German, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch. Today, we introduced our new responsive site design across most of Europe, and also added brand new sites for our Austrian, Belgian and Switzerland communities. (Cue the champagne!)

Eva Köster, Lucy Jasper, Tamara Wouda and Eva Missling celebrate in Berlin.

Our team around the world is excited by the tremendous growth we’ve seen in the past year. In addition to our European expansion we also launched localized sites in Singapore, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Chile; and just last month acquired Brazilian creative marketplace LogoChef and launched a Portuguese version of 99designs in Brazil. We’ve now paid out $60 million since our founding in 2008 to the nearly 250,000 designers in our global community! But today, we’re focusing solely on how far we’ve come in Europe, and where we’re heading from here.

Here’s what our marketing managers across the region have to say on the occasion of our 1-year anniversary:

Eva Missling, General Manager for Europe: What a year! The 12Designer staff received such a warm welcome into the 99designs family last year, and since then our rapidly expanding European team has been busy building five new language versions of 99designs and spreading the word about creative crowdsourcing and the importance of quality graphic design for small businesses across Europe. It’s been tremendous fun to work with my colleagues around the world and to connect customers here with our remarkably active and talented global design community. While regional growth has been the primary focus in our Berlin HQ, it’s also exciting to play a part in creating more ways for customers to work together, such as through our enhanced 1-to-1 Projects offering and Swiftly, our new site and service for quick design tasks. We may have come a long way in a short time – and we have no intentions of slowing down!”

Samantha Graves, UK Marketing Manager: Since I joined in March and established our office in London we’ve seen impressive growth across our customers and designer communities, have participated in major events like Web Summit London and have established some fantastic partnerships. The UK market holds enormous potential for 99designs and we’re striving hard to continue to connect businesses here with designers around the world, not only through our core crowdsourced contest model but through the variety of new services we’ve incorporated into the 99designs platform.

We send a heartfelt thank you to all of our European customers and designers! (You can check out some of the fantastic design work our designer community has created over at our Designer Blog.)

We’d love feedback from our European community – what are we doing right? What would you like to see us do better? Tell us in the comments!
