This is a book for new and expectant parents on the emotional, psychological and relationship aspects of being a new parent.
What's your vision?
The book is about the Emotional, Psychological and Relationship aspects of being a new parent. It contains many anecdotes from different parents. It covers the following topics: 1. Realistic expectations of being a parent- often there is a gap between reality and expectation. 2. Acknowledging the losses of being a parent- there is a romanticized version of parenthood that we often have but it is important to acknowledge that change can be bitter-sweet. 3. Changing roles- Managing your new role as a parent. 4. Relationship changes- This covers your partner as well as extended family and how having a baby may impact on those relationships. 5. The Family you grew up in- How your childhood values and beliefs affect your parenting and what you choose to bring with you to your new family. 6. Priorities – Managing the balance of all aspects of life including work, family, friends, self-care and couple time. 7. Mental health awareness- This chapter talks about depression and anxiety and where to get help. 8. Getting rid of negative thoughts-Introduction to basic concepts on cognitive behaviour therapy and mindfulness. 9. Guilt- A discussion on what guilt is and how to keep it at bay. 10. How to manage unwanted advice- A chapter about being assertive. 11. Being a mindful parent- A discussion on being more present, creative and in the moment with our babies and in doing so, lessening the stress we put on ourselves. 12. Getting help- Explores how we feel about asking for help, the barriers we might have and tips on how to get some!
