What's your vision?
Book cover design for the upcoming title: Smart Kid, Can’t Read 5 Step Parent Program to Closing Your Child’s Reading Gap By Lorna Kaufman, Ph.D, With Sandy Doran, Ed.D and Leigh Leveen The cover should be: • Bold, dramatic but also visually simple, use primary colors as a background • Speak to parents and be easy to read • The main part of the title should be larger, with the “5 Steps…” statement as a subtitle • No use of children or photos of children on the cover • The back of the jacket will include a few paragraph description of the content, 2 endorsement quotes, and a small author photo (to be given to the winning designer to add) • The book cover design will be used as a jumping off point for marketing materials including a logo and the look of the book’s website. • This cover will be used to self-publish the title through an online publisher. It needs to be available in jpeg and pdf format with a minimum dpi 300. No clipart, no stock images should be used. Only original materials and designs should be used. One idea we have is that the book cover would mimic the look of an open book. This is only a jumping off point, we are open to other ideas. The audience is parents of school-age children who are having trouble learning to read. It is an advocacy book that gives parents the inside scoop on how decisions are made in schools and how to advocate for their children to get the support they need and deserve. Reading issues are a common problem, shared by 38-40% of the school-age population. There is a widespread audience for this book, and the cover should capture them, and let them know the book will help them support their child’s reading needs.
