leighs got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Create an eyecatching cover for a How-to Be A Writer book for women
Check out leighs's Book cover contest…
TFIR is my personal website. I create writing courses, retreats and books for women who want to write. My target audience is women who like to travel, take chances but are also prone to letting fear get in the way of what they want. They're opinionated, creative and sensitive.
What's your vision?
I've updated the title. It will be The Writer's Roadmap for sure. I am still getting feedback on the tagline. Which will be one of the following: How-to Organize Your Writing Into a Career Four Steps to Create Your Writing Career Pave Your Way to Writing Success One thing I'm noticing in the designs I've received so far is that the main title (The Writer's Roadmap) is large and easy to read, but the tagline (Four Steps to Create Your Writing Career) are very small. Since this is a how-to book, the whole title including the tagline needs to clearly convey what the book is about. That's what will make people want to buy it. The imagery (as gorgeous as so many of them are) come secondary. My name, also, doesn't need to be huge. I'll be selling it mainly via Amazon in both print and digital format, so the cover needs to work for both. I'd like the cover to use imagery and colors that appeal to women but should not be typically feminine. I don't want it to be all pink, for example and no super curly fonts. It's' a business/ work book but can also include some hobby/fun things. I'd prefer the more dominant parts of the title be non-serif, but it's ok for parts of it to be serif. I also like really clean design with open space and flat colors. I would love to include some nature images along with business ones. I love butterflies. Total bonus if you can include it subtly. Not all over the place or huge. I'd also like to avoid typical writers imagery such as pencils, pens, computer screens, etc. I'd like to use colors that reflect my brand but also convey a business that is work-at home or work-while-you-travel. Nothing very corporate. Also, I'll be selling on Amazon, so the cover must look good small.
You can take a look at my website for the general look and feel I like http://thefutureisred.com. These are good colors to use, too.
