A complete book cover (front and back) designed with future branding/multimedia use in mind.
This book is the first of our products we are producing. However, it is based on a class I teach, which we plan to record and produce as a separate resource. We also plan to produce a workbook to offer along with the DVD/downloadable class. All this will be offered on a website designed to cultivate online community for everyone who wants to take the journey of their identity seriously. This website will include collaborative efforts with other thought leaders who can meaningfully contribute to a cause that's headed by the name Become You.
So Become You is a book, but it will grow into a brand. I'm not a designer, so I don't understand how difficult what I'm asking for is, but any sensitivity you can take toward the future use of the Become You name while designing this book cover is what we're looking for. More specifically, as much as possible, please design the Become You book cover with future use in logo, website, and multimedia.
Become You is all about people discovering and living their unique identity, so it needs an equally unique and inspiring cover.
We welcome all ideas that creatively depict the concept of discovering yourself, becoming who you were born to be, or learning to live life as a truly unique expression of personhood. I want someone to feel the title as they see the cover. This is the ultimate must for this design. If you have an idea you believe does this, I want to see it, even if it doesn't follow the further guidelines below.
The general feel we're looking for is one that's very colorful and full of life. As I perused a large bookstore to see what caught my eye, bright colors and faces were the two common themes. I want a cover that stands out on a shelf. If it looks like the rest, then it's missed the point. However that happens, the stand out is a must, whether through color or other means.
It would be wonderful if the font is equally unique and creative, but something that appeals to both genders, and clear enough that no one has to work at reading it at a glance.
I think the design process will help clarify further direction, but I'll close with one idea that came to mind. I love the idea, so feel free to go for it, but I'm not confident on all aspects of it. Here's the idea:
I can see in my mind a picture on a cover with three children standing at a chalkboard writing lines. The child on one side writes, "I will be just like everyone else." The child on the other side writes, "I will follow all the rules." But the child in the middle is drawing a vibrantly colorful picture that crosses and breaks all the lines, boundaries, and borders, maybe even going above and/or below the chalkboard. While the children on either side stand nicely before the board, I see the middle child straining to reach higher and color farther. Perhaps there's even a way to fade or mute the colors where the other two children are, or even greyscale them completely so only the middle child is colorful.
I like this picture because I feel it captures an image or expresses the heart of Become You. The feeling and the heart are what I'm after much more than the specifics of this picture, so if this picture can clarify that heart and feeling we're going for, then please take the inspiration and run with it through your own creativity.
