I wrote a book and need a book cover design (front/back/spine). My book, "Making Angels," is a story of our journey to have children. It also documents my spiritual journey. Target audience is any woman or couple who has struggled with infertility or pregnancy loss. See more comments below.
What's your vision?
I would like a (6 x 9) book cover that can be used for paperback books, eBooks, and a design that can extend onto use for a website. Main title: Making Angels Subtitle: A story of heartache . . .and countless blessings on our journey to have a family. OR A story of blessings on our journey to have children after the heartache of infertility, miscarriage and late term pregnancy loss. Author name: Stacey Urrutia The story I tell discusses the very painful and raw emotions that anyone who has experienced problems with infertility can relate to- it may be that they are having a difficult time getting pregnant, a hard time staying pregnant, or loss of a baby shortly after birth. When I was younger and living through this myself, I felt like there was nobody who could relate to me, especially after 5 lost pregnancies (4 miscarriages, and the loss of a baby girl I delivered at 22 weeks gestation). I was even told that the pregnancy leading to our oldest son would never work out. For that pregnancy I spent 4 months on strict bed rest and had contractions throughout my bed rest. Our second son was carried by a surrogate mother, which is a long and complex process as well. Our situation was a little unique in that I am a white female (I have a Hispanic husband) and the surrogate we chose was black. Throughout the book, I weave in discussions about my spiritual journey. I think many women who struggle to get pregnant or successfully carry a baby have similar questions about what role God plays in their lives (if any) during such a challenging and disappointing time. For me, I was not able to find peace in our journey until I realized that the sufferings I endured were actually a gift that lead to something greater. Namely, a better relationship with God, and the ability to share my story with others so that I may help them with their own journey. I think it’s important that although I categorized this book as “Religious”, the right “Industry” option didn’t really exist on the drop down list. I am hoping this book is a mix of self-help and inspirational, with a bit of religious mixed in. There are several books out there about pregnancy loss that are rather hoaky- for example, books about people who talk to their dead babies. My manuscript does not have any of that. I try to address the real life impact that many women/couples face when they struggle to have a child…such as financial difficulties, relational difficulties (with spouse, family and friends), spiritual questioning, healthcare issues, etc.
I am open minded as to cover designs. I had some initial ideas- they varied from pictures of my husband and me (from the back) sitting on a dock looking out at the water to something as simple as a sunset or field that seemed vast and expansive. We live on a lake so maybe that’s why I imagined something over the water. Plus it provokes a peaceful feeling, and yet at the same time leaves you feeling like things are wide-open. When going through infertility issues, the problem seems overwhelming at times. But at the end of it all, hopefully in most cases, there is a sense of peacefulnesss and resolve, regardless of the outcome. I can say that I do not want something that looks overly religious or ethereal because I want the book to appeal to lots of people, not just those with beliefs like mine. Text for the back cover: "I regret to inform you the test is negative." "I'm sorry, but the baby doesn't have a heartbeat." In an instant, one defining moment, the hope for a baby is ripped away. While some couples conceive and carry a baby very easily, others, like Stacey and Kevin, travel on a journey that takes years to bring them the children they desire. The road to create their family included a spiritual awakening as well—one that was realized only years after they had children to call their own. Whether you've had difficulty getting pregnant, struggled with multiple miscarriages, or lost a baby born prematurely, this relatable memoir will pull at your heartstrings. The raw emotions and real-life struggles Stacey and her husband endured will show you that you and your loved ones can not only survive infertility problems, but thrive after such an experience. Through her story, you will learn that regardless of your outcome, there is a way to restore a sense of peace in your life.
