I would like a book cover designed for an approximately 180 page 6 by 9 inch softcover book. I have used 99Designs for a previous cover and was very happy with the result. I have written a book in a narrative entertaining yet substantive way that seeks to suggest another model for diversity, other than race and ethnicity. I have used the model of tribes to do this. I have identified six tribes that I believe inhabit western society and cultures. These tribes are often in conflict about worldview - people of differing tribes see events in different ways and come to different conclusions. I use the image of kaleidoscope throughout the book. We turn it and turn it until we see something that makes sense to us and we enjoy....so it is with life events. I talk about tribal migration, tribal warfare and explain each tribe's make up. The title of the book is "Tribal Markings: A New Paradigm for Understanding Individual and Group Identity" A further subtitle to inject humor is "Why Don't You See Things Like I Do? How Can You be So Wrong?" The author name on the front is Philip R. Stover
I am uploading some files: author photo and a logo concept I had done some time ago. I like it, but I am not at all wedded or committed to it. I encourage you to be creative. I have often thought a fractal image would be great....there are six tribes somehow all coming together to form one whole society. Another image might be a kaleidoscope image with six points to it....know what I mean? We fight, we bond, but we together create our culture. The intro is set in Africa, using an experience from my time there, where recognizing the tribal markings on someone's face probably saved our lives. I am using that as a model....if we recognize each others tribal identities we can avoid a lot of conflict. Two of the tribes, for example are the Knowites (those desiring the facts) and the Believites (those motivated by their beliefs). I envision this as a kind of pop culture, psychology book. I will post back cover text and author bio later today, but I am anxious to get this contest going! Best of luck to you all. I like to communicate so do not hesitate to ask me questions or to seek more information. I really have nothing solid in mind as far as a cover design. I am attaching the files including the Rio Vista Press logo one of you designed for me previously. Thanks for participating. As before, I will award to someone!
I have had some questions from you. I want to clarify - the tribal image is simply a metaphor for how we in society organize ourselves with people who think like we do and then debate or criticize those who view
the world differently. For example, believers join together in churches or Humane societies where they are together with those who believe the same as they do about things. Those who are what I call
"Amites" join together by some common physical characteristic: race (NAACP), height (the tall people society) or intellect (MENSA). Within that group they find common identity and a fairly common world view.
They then argue with those who write, believe, feel, think differently than they do. My suggestion is that real diversity is getting a knowite, a believite and an Amite in the room together - not simply three people of different ethnicities who may indeed not view the world very differently. I hope that helps. Please continue to ask questions. I am looking for a full cover for print books and the front for e-books. There may be too many words in what I suggested for the front. I am very flexible. Please feel free to portray using an imagery you
want. I do think our western culture is made up of these six different groupings - so if you can figure out how to take six objects, things, and blend them into one whole, that would be terrific. Some stars have
five points or six points, six figures holding hands, or simply a representation like the shield in the logo. Please let me know if you have further questions. I am preparing the text for the back page this morning. Maybe that will help.
I have now attached the back cover verbiage. I think that a reading of that will help you understand the book's intent. Thanks
