Community & Non-Profit
We are a progressive national security leadership institute.
What's your vision?
ICON DESIGN USE: We are producing a book-length printed product intended for political candidates for federal office. Each chapter is background material on a given national security issue. The call-out boxes and margins need to have icons which identify standardized information -- For example, there are a number of "Common Error" boxes throughout each chapter. We'd like each of these types of boxes to have an icon which distinguishes it. As an analogy, think of a car user manual with boxes on the side of the main content, each with an icon on it like "DANGER" or similar. These will be printed at about 1.5in x 1.5in. DESIGN GUIDANCE. Icons should be 1, max 2 colors, and relatively "flat" in their design. We need to be able to easily recolor them (in Illustrator) to fit this and future uses, so flat and simple designs are best. No bounding box or holding shape is necessary around each. (Our three brand colors are: Purple C90 M95 Y10 K41, Blue C79 M47 Y18 K1, and Slate C47 M13 Y12 K13.) Provide in Adobe Illustrator format. WE NEED AN ICON FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING: FUNCTIONAL ITEMS (pull-out boxes) "Summary/short version" -- appears next to summary content and identifies "What you need to know in 30 seconds," or "if you only read one thing, read this"-type information. For example, this could be a clock w/ a "30secs" in the face. something like that. Values-based content. Used to identify sections which are specifically about how political/personal values affect, or are affected by, a policy choice. Key Fact. An important piece of information that is essential to know. Common error. Identifies a mistake in understanding that many people make on a given issue. Connection/See also. Identifies a connection to a different chapter in the book. Good idea. This is a positive policy choice. (try and be less literal than a check mark) Bad idea. This is a policy choice which is not advisable. (Be less literal than an "X" mark) Going Deep -- identifies an area of indepth, detailed, or technical information. ISSUE ITEMS (in-line subject matter identification) Trade. Denotes information about international trade/commerce. Human rights. Denotes info about human rights and/or the rule of law. Oil. denotes info about oil. (think: oil barrel) Terrorism. Is related to terrorism. Nuclear. denotes info about nuclear power, weapons, material, or proliferation. Diplomacy. denotes info about diplomacy. (Do NOT go the direction of doves or olive branches) Development. denotes info about foreign aid and international development program.s (Do NOT go the direction of "handouts" or "Charity") Military. denotes info about the use of force and/or traditional military tools. Veterans. denotes info about military veterans and their families. Money/funding. denotes info about spending levels or costs.
Your work will be shown to prominent political figures and candidates.
