They needed a flexible mark that could work equally well in a number of different contexts, from print and advertising to mobile applications. I created a pedal with nine spaced dots, minus one. The dots represent grip pads typical to the pedal of a high-end vehicle, while removing one leaves a P as a recognisable icon particular to the business name. For mobile application use, I add a page turn at the lower right corner, to signify paging through, or choice. The dots without that frame, meanwhile, make for great collateral for advertising. The icon is paired with a custom wordmark, balanced, clean and distinctive on its own.")

I knew that I wanted the card to remain minimalist. But in the exploration this circular pattern formed, echoing the Bauhaus and what would branch off into Swiss design in general. This gives a nod to the origins of Porsche design, and some of the parallel threads in the history of graphic modernism that help contextualise its depth and timelessness.
The circular design takes advantage of differential line weighting, to give the sheen of a metallic form, even though the design is simple to print, in being pure white on Merlot Red paper stock.")

This project was interesting and challenging not least because of my admiration for Porsche design. The Porsche 911 is one of the greatest works of 20th century design. While Dieter Rams is deservedly recognised for his impact on modern design, the Porsche design team had no lesser impact.
So I wanted to approach this task respectfully and seriously, and genuinely attempt to reach a mark that could stand upright amid that heritage.
Perhaps the most recognisable element of the Porsche 911 is its tailgate. Taking a cue from the wrap-around brake lights often seen on 911 designs, I constructed a B plus C monogram.
The tapered curves — not unlike the actual tailgate of the car — give a three-dimensional effect, adding depth and beauty. Meanwhile, the mark is paired with an elegant sans serif, to complete the premium feel.")

But when we started this project, the first printing, it was necessary to wipe the slate, dig in, and give deep thought to the exact feel and spirit of Pedal. We engaged in a painstaking discussion and search to define colors, typography, texture, and the relationship of elements. Sophisticated, yet approachable. Inspiring confidence, yet dynamic. Several iterations in, we arrived to this. Here is not only a layout: it’s an outlook that will serve as the basis of the Pedal brand.
Pedal is ambitious project to enter the highly competitive limousine market San Francisco's Bay Area. What defines Pedal is quality and the comprehensiveness of its service. This is beyond Uber. It’s beyond Lyft. We had to create an aesthetic that could ground its market entrance vis-a-vis these companies. The owner is a fan of Saul Bass. We gave a nod to film noir while remaining contemporary. And we wanted to do something beautiful.")
