Autism Asperger Spectrum Coalition for Education, Networking, and Development
AASCEND is the Autism Asperger Spectrum Coalition for Education, Networking, and Development, a San Francisco-based 501c3 nonprofit peer support and advocacy organization started in late 1999. We host free monthly programs and events open to the public and focused on interests and concerns of adults on the autism spectrum. AASCEND is a member-run organization with no paid staff or office, and we depend on the generosity of our community to cover our operating expenses. Our meetings alternate between presentations by invited speakers and open discussion forums among our members on a range of topics of interest to adults on the autism spectrum. We also hold 3 social gatherings a year: our Annual Brunch for National Autism Awareness Month in April, an Annual Picnic in July, and a Holidays Party one evening each December. We have also held 6 conferences since 2001. Many of us also belong to AASCEND's partner group, AUTASTICS, founded by Adam Pollack in 1994 for adults on the autism spectrum and related conditions such as NLD. For more information, please visit the AUTASTICS website at www.autastics.org
