John Downie needed a new logo design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 321 designs submitted by 96 freelance designers.
Carbon Coach
Carbon Coach is a start up Australian business with a new service model to help organisations conduct their own carbon footprint. The web domain will be http://www.carboncoach.com.au
This is the first step of a three part design process. Once I have selected the winning logo from this competition I will commission a web design and a document/powerpoint/business card design. Please note there is no affiliation with the business at http://www.carboncoach.com, and the service offering is quite different.
The objective is to not look like a startup or just a one man band! The culture is about accuracy, transparency and quality in carbon footprinting. I would like to think that Carbon Coach can help to raise standards of carbon footprint assessment whilst also making the process more accessible, so more businesses can start to understand then address their emissions.
Carbon Coach will target organisations voluntarily conducting or looking to conduct a carbon footprint. The bulk of clientele are expected to be small (not micro) to medium private businesses where decision making will rest with a sole or few owners. Carbon Coach is going to be a lower priced service offering than most consultancies in this space and our aim is to educate our customers so that they become more self-sufficient.
I am looking for a simple, crisp, clean logo with a corporate feel. This is a business to business consulting service and so the logo needs to brand the company as trustworthy, accurate and reasonably serious. The service offering is not currently available in the Australian market.
I am flexible on whether the name (or the acronym) is embodied in the logo or whether the logo is merely a symbol that appears next to the name. I would however ideally like to have two versions – the core version and a second one incorporating the full name (if not in the core) and the tag line.
Having just said that, I’m still deciding on the tag line. For the moment please work with “Guidance for carbon footprinting”.
On colour:
Green dominance usually seems a bit too obvious in the environment field but complementing other colours it can work ok. When it comes to the web site I’ll be looking for lighter shades rather than a black or dark background so the logo will need to bear this in mind. Otherwise the logo will lead the colour direction.
Some don’ts:
I don’t want anything based on trees, leaves, water, cooling towers or smokestacks. This is an Australian startup so if you’re thinking of some planetary image make sure it doesn’t have Europe or the US in the foreground of the globe as this won’t be viewed favourably.
