The Games
The Event:
For the last few years the College has ran a successful sporting event called superstars, involving local Secondary Schools with participants ranging from 14 – 16 years old. Over the years this has grown and matured and become a high profile event. With the 2012 Olympics approaching, the College want to launch a new event to coincide with the world wide Olympic activity by taking on a new approach with a new sporting theme and different exciting sports games.
The name of the event is called ‘The Games’. The Games have several heats and initially the College is involved in visiting each school. The best contestants from each school then form a team to battle it out for glory in ‘The Games Final’ at a local and impartial sports facility. Sports students from the College are encouraged to take a leading role in the project in order to develop their community and leadership skills which are also considered to enhance their progress.
Each year the event is supported by a sporting champion, three of which have been olympic medalists. The event is sponsored by both local and national companies (tescos, Del Monte, Oldrids, etc) and therefore has a high profile within the College catchment areas.
The event involves both secondary school students (14 - 16 years) and College students (16 - 25 years) and College staff (adults)
Although a simular event has run for the last five years, this event is new, with new sports games, a new approach and new branding so we want the school students who may have heard about the old event to look forward to an exciting change.
The event aims to promote competitive sports, physical activity and health in general.
We require a new brand logo which will be used on t-shirts, publicity, literature, awards, displays and promotional items. The colours in the logo will carry through to design banners, adverts, etc.
Logos (and branding) will need to be produced in a variety of materials (i.e. metal for trophies, on fabric for t-shirts) and in a variety of colours so will need to be versatile. Logo will be printed on dark and light material.
Brief:
• This year ‘The Games’ should incorporate some of the spirit of the Olympics but the logo is NOT be centralised around this event or use any elements of the Olympic branding. It is very important that you to comply with this part of the brief to prevent breaking olympic copyright laws.
The logo should:
• Be edgy to demonstrate a positive attitude.
• Versatile for all involved from tutors to team leaders to school participants.
• Have ‘a get up and go’ attitude, to ignite the incentive of getting involved in sport and team work.
• Have an energetic feel to it, for example, excitement, motivation, spirit, empowerment, pride, ambition, challenge, dream
• Illustrate the feelings dealt with when participating in a major sport event e.g. nerves, drive, and adrenaline, the culmination of years of hard work, the passion and desire to achieve.
• Be impressionable to inspire our leaders and participants onto greater things.
