Create an exciting new logo for a philosophy-centered approach to teaching!
Check out tomR7's Logo design contest…
We are Jason and Tom, and we make up 'The Philosophy Man.' We are looking for a logo to reflect what we do: We go into UK schools and deliver philosophy-for-children workshops for pupils of all ages. We mainly deliver workshops to primary age children (5-11). We also deliver training for teachers, helping them embed philosophy within their lessons. 'Philosophy Circles' is our new approach to facilitating philosophy in the classroom. The name comes from the method: pupils exploring philosophical questions in a full-class circle, and breaking off into smaller circles for more in-depth discussion. The crucial thing is that the teacher is not present. The teacher is 'in orbit' outside the circle, and letting the pupils drive the discussion. Circles are very important in Philosophy, as it fosters a sense of community, collaboration, and equal chance to speak and be heard. Circles also refer to communities of any size, from the classroom to networks of like-minded teachers. We are happy for the words to be put together i.e. PhilosophyCircles. We are looking for something playful, yet professional and sleek. Something detailed and articulate wouldn't really suit. It should represent what we do: giving pupils the opportunity to hold their own discussions in circles of varying size, with the teacher OUTSIDE of it. These circles are arenas for disagreement and debate, for critical thinking as well as collaboration. The best designs we can imagine would show that a big circle of pupils can change into small circles of pupils, with the teacher outside of all of them. We are NOT looking for a diagram of circles with Philosophy Circles written next to it. We would like a designer who take the idea above, and create something original. Our product is aimed at primary school teachers, often female, but our product is then delivered to children. We are designing our website once we have chosen our logo, and we have no set colour-scheme decided at the moment. However, we have been advised to remain with primary colours as these are most associated with teaching this age group. However, we are very open to other ideas. I have put together a mood-board of what we like already, but this is just a starting point. https://uk.pinterest.com/tombigglestone/philosophy-man-logo-inspiration/ A few key words that describe the approach, that could help inspire particular symbols/designs/incorporations: Philosophy, Community, Enquiry, Discussion, Thinking, Debate, Curriculum, Topics, Lessons. Please interpret our brief in any way you think best! We look forward to seeing your designs!
