Logo types to explore
Brides (25-35ish) are my target market, but I want to be inclusive for grooms too. The first, most important, thing that I want from my logo and all my marketing materials to do is overcome that concern that many brides have about unknown DJs -- that they are going to be tacky or cheesy and embarrass them at their reception. So, off the bat, I want to convey a degree of professionalism. I want them to be assured that I take their wedding seriously. So even though I happen to be a lot of fun, I don't want to get too silly. I really like, but am not glued to, a Windows font called Pizzicato Swash. What I like about it is that it says, "entertainment" to me and it does it in a classy, but not stuff, elite or pretentious way. I envision a logo that uses the full words "Puget Sound DJ" and incorporates some graphic element. My belief is that headphones are the most universally recognized element that would apply to me, followed by a mic. I'm not a club DJ or "scratcher," so references to turntables, CDs, mixing aren't a great fit. And I don't think brides respond to mixers, equalizers or sound bars with the enthusiasm that guys do. I would like something that might be adaptable to different shapes - sometimes I need a square logo, sometimes a rectangle. I would like something that might have room to add a tagline if I decide on one. (I use Professional. Personal. Passionate. now, but that's under serious review and may not survive January.) I'm not really that eager to play off the word "sound" in my company name. It's well-understood geographically around here, as the identifier of the region and I think it's simplest to leave it that way. Similarly, I'm not all that excited about musical notes, but I can't really give you a reason for that opinion. My market is sort of the economic middle and up a bit. So I don't need super-elegant or gold highlights or things that would convey luxury. I'm pretty down-to-earth (and want to attract couples who are.) My Website is http://www.pugetsounddj.com
