GEOS-Chem is a computer model that simulates the global Earth atmosphere and its chemistry. It is a model that started at Harvard, and is now used by dozens of academic research groups from all over the world. The research questions tend to focus on issues related to air quality, and global climate change. We study how pollutants are emitted into the atmosphere, transformed by chemical reactions, and transported across the globe by winds. It is a grass-roots community model, with code developed by all its users and shared widely for public research consumption. The main audience we are considering are other academics who will hear about our model for the first time at conferences or scientific meetings. There are so may ad-hoc "logos" used by GEOS-Chem users around the world, we are finally looking to standardize the logo that we will all love.

I like the simplicity of this logo, and the very clear name below. Most of the other sample logos have too many details or too much going on. We need something plain and simple that will be easily seen on a powerpoint slide from far away. One thing I don't like about this logo is the number of colors. Also, I wish the graphic actually gave me more information on what this company is.
A logo design that incorporates a globe would be a good start, although not necessary. Something that conveys the fact that we are modeling global atmospheric transport (winds/motion) and how chemicals are transformed by reactions in the atmosphere.
