We offer college prep and long distance post secondary education support services, local workforce development and local lifelong learning. Rural small town on Lake Superior in Minnesota. We are trying to educate our residents locally so they do not have to travel to nearest city which is 110 miles away. Our students take classes through on line education and Interactive Television and on campus.
Our mission statement is: Provide local access and support for college education and training on the north shore of Lake Superior. We are a small office of 4 staff. Our services are free to college students and affordable to community members. We are a non-profit. We are mainly funded by the State of Minnesota. We are not a college. We are in NORTHERN Minnesota. We are a tourism based community. We are surrounded by wilderness - trees, inland lakes and Lake Superior. Our customers are primarily women, but we'd like to expand our reach. College course takers are in their 20s and 30s, lower economic bracket and often receive scholarships. Our college prep audience are primarily high school students. Our workforce development attendees are from small, tourism based industry. Our lifelong learners are often middle class retirees. Our Donors are primarily small local business sponsorships and affluent individuals with legacy plans and generally some affiliation with education during their careers.
I am attaching our logo and a photo of our building - our "campus." We don't like the logo because it doesn't convey strongly enough what we do. It ties us too strongly to one of the four aspects of our programming - the online education. It also dates us with the technology chosen to represent us. It also feels too busy and feels like a dark blob.
