We need a new website designed for our Fine Antiques business. We are an extremely prominent and exquisite dealer of antiques and specialise in high value items so a highly expensive and exclusive, elegant looking design is a neccessity.
LJR Windwake & Sons
Fine Antique Auctions
Desired Color Scheme:
gold, brown, rich, elegant
Clean, professional, rich, elegant, exquisite, deluxe, old, antique, oak, rustic
Accepted File Formats:
Layered Formats (.psd or .tiff)
Look and Feel:
We need a website that matches our rich history and exclusive client list. We need the website to use rich, elegant colours, like browns, golds, greens and other rich-feeling colours.
Despite this rich feel, the text needs to be clearly visible, so no brown text on brown background escapades!! A lighter background would be preferred as we feel it generally gives a cleaner user experience however this could be sacrificed if a design was truly original and looked uncerimoniously rich and elegant.
The layout will follow the 'standard' web format, with a header across the top preferably suited to fit a 1024x768 browser window, but I would like the design to look and feel complete on larger screens also.
In the header should be a logo for our company, LJR Windwake & Sons, again to look and feel rich, exquisite and luxurious with an older, antique-age style about it. Also in the header should be an image (or series of images) that fit the contents of our site, so feel free to take images from our auction listings of bookcases, rich oak furnitures, tables, boxes, chests, pianos, chairs etc. This image should be big enough to act as a normal header image for promotion or alternatively a flash image if we wish to change at a later date. You can either use the full width of the design for this or say, two thirds and have the navbar coming down the left of it if you wish. Just above the image, there should be some text/links to our contact details, details about our company and a sitemap.
This should ideally be to the left of the page, either below the header image or as a crossover from the header to the main content area. The style of link here should be text link with rollover effects for the background and text itself. We DO NOT want complex images here but just text that can be styled using .css (stylesheets). You can see the current links that we have in the navbar and the desired [general] style of the links by visiting http://www.windwake.net
Having clicked the link in the above paragraph, you will have seen the current content style of the page. I would like to keep as close to this as possible. You can deviate by adding some promotional boxes or info boxes just above the item listings but generally, the content area will predominantly be taken up by items. Again, the colours in this area must flow and match the rich and elegant style of the site.
This should be the usual closing of the page and should contain space for text and text links for things like the copyright and various text links directing people to various parts of the site etc. (terms and conditions etc etc.)
Sites that we like the look of:
http://www.bridgemanartondemand.com - for the overall feeling of rich, elegance and the clean design.
http://www.elisabethjamesantiques.co.uk - for the rich colour scheme and impression of expensive antiques it conveys
http://www.timezone.org.uk/ - although I dont like the design because it doesn't look rich enough for me, it still manages to convey a sense of professionalism with its clean design. There is also an undercurrent of luxury to it which I like..perhaps because of the subtle use of the colours??
