Community & Non-Profit
MAZON is nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing an alleviating hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds, primarily in the US, but also in Israel and select developing nations. We practice and promote a holistic approach to ending hunger by employing three interrelated strategies: - advocacy & education to raise awareness of the issue and encourage people to speak out on behalf of those who need help; - partnership grants to on-the-ground organizations that help advance our mission within their communities; and - strategic initiatives designed to advance knowledge and capacity within the anti-hunger community.
Logo types to explore
MAZON has been around for 25 years, and there is a misperception among many that we've grown stale - that other newer nonprofits are "better" than we are. We are looking for a logo that helps us signal NEW ENERGY and a REVITALIZED DIRECTION. Ideas we'd like the logo to convey include: 1) Sophistication - we have a very sophisticated understanding of both the problem of hunger and what the real solutions could be. 2) Depth of Knowledge & Experience - We have 25 years of experience in anti-hunger work, and have developed a strong reputation as a leader in the field. 3) Progressive/Innovative Thinking - we're constantly looking for ways to advance the field and expand the knowledge base and capacity of the anti-hunger community. 4) Holistic Approach - Each of the three strategies we employ (advocacy & education, partnership grantmaking, & strategic initiatives) plays an integral part in ending hunger - one alone will not work. Additionally, each of these strategies is inextricably linked to the growth and development of the others. 5) Approachability - We are, at heart, a grassroots organization. There has to be a certain level of warmth in our identity. MAZON Logo 2 color.jpeg is our current logo. It's too blocky; the colors do not reflect enough energy (although we're not opposed to keeping orange as an accent color if it works); the misalignment of the tagline makes it difficult to place; and we don't like the wheat. MAZON_Logo_font we like.jpeg is round two for a designer we initially engaged for the work. We like the eggplant color, and we really like this font. We are open to the idea of using the "O" of MAZON to illustrate the three interrelated strategies, but this execution completely falls flat. The tagline "A Jewish Response to Hunger" needs to be part of the identity/mark/logo. This does not mean there needs to be any Jewish symbolism as part of the mark. We'd like to stay away from blue and brown completely. We do like a deep red as an accent color, but are open to other ideas too. ***NEW INFO: I'd very much like to see explorations beyond the stylized O. It's conceivable that the final design may not include any iconography. Tap into your creativity & show us what you've got. ** NEW INFO: We're looking for something that's sophisticated and elegant - not too cute. We like dimensionality - light sources, shines, shadows, etc. - things that add life and dimension. Plants are not going to work for us, unless they're more abstract than literal. There is an organization with a similar name (hazon) whose focus is the intersection of the food system and the environment, so plants, grains, etc, will probably be too close to their mission and would create confusion.
