Nin@ totally got my vision for the logo and was more than willing to make changes to create the perfect logo!
How Nicholas Fogelson started their logo design journey
I am a academic Obstetrician/Gynecologist and the creator of the blog and podcast Academic OB/GYN. Academic OB/GYN focuses on communication and education for obstetrician/gynecologists, but is also if interest to many other medical professionals and laypeople. I have created this site to discuss topics of interest to myself with my colleagues and the public. I hope to grow the number of viewers with the site, and eventually monetize the traffic.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
My primary audience is physicians specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. My secondary audience is physicians in other specialties, and midlevel providers in my specialty and others. The third audience is interested laypeople.
At present there are no competitive site that addresses this specific audience, though there are many medical blogs that have some cross over with this site. There are several podcasts that cover topics similar to what I cover, though they are not as fully developed as what I am doing.
This blog is potentially the first of a network of blogs that address many if not all fields in medicine. Ideally, the image we create here could serve as a template for the creation of other blog/podcast logos, that while different would be recognizably be connected to this blog.
At present I am looking for a good logo for this project. This logo should be appropriate for business cards, letterhead avatars, and a twitter image. I would like it to be a logo that could be further developed around into a masthead for a revision of my blog. If we are successful creating a logo that works well, I likely would want to work with the winning designer to develop some of these other things.
I am looking for a logo that integrates the title "Academic OB/GYN" with a graphic that is connected to the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This logo should work in black and white or in a two-color scheme.
One idea I have is for a brush outline of a uterus that is partially overwritten with the title "Academic OB/GYN" in some sort of text. The script outline would not have to be incredibly detailed, but would have to be immediately recognizable by someone in the field. I feel like the graphic should appear to be more stylized than like a medical diagram , as if the product it represents has some personality and action. I am imagining something that makes substantial use of negative space rather than something that is extremely full of detail.
I am open to other ideas as well. Be creative. Other image themes that also say Obstetrics and Gynecology may also work very well.
