I am a wedding photographer focused on documenting the stories of marriage-centric couples on their wedding day through honest, clean and timeless photography. This target audience is deeply emotional and connects with brands based on the way things make them feel.
Logo types to explore
Hi, my name is Joshua Gull and I'm a wedding photographer based in Nashville, TN. You can see some of my work at www.joshuagull.com to get an idea for my style and brand message (I'm in the middle of a professional site redesign, hence the need for a new logo that matches my brand and message). You can also see my current logo and visual branding there. What I'm looking for in a logo... -- a light, mid or dark shade of gray -- lowercase lettering with a hand painted/written feel with broad brush strokes, think calligrapher + painter (reference "ryan ray" upload) -- the same feel for bird silhouettes above my name (1-3 birds) -- potentially a nice serif or sans serif font reading "wedding photography" or "WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY" below my name EDITED TO ADD: For the lettering I feel like I'm speaking in terms that could mean different things to different people. Think "painterly" calligrapher with calligrapher being the key part That's the most succinct way I can think to describe what I'm looking for. Lean towards slightly whimsical calligraphy. I'm a very easy-going guy that attracts very easy-going clients that place a very high value on life, relationships and the beginning of their marriage and life together. I want to make an emotional appeal to clients who themselves are emotional people attracted to things that make them "feel." My target clients are primarily women/brides but I don't want it to be so feminine that men/grooms can't enjoy it as well. The logo needs to appeal to the 21-35 year old demographic but not be overtly feminine (I think thicker strokes in the calligraphy/typography can accomplish this and I've included an example photo). Here are a few of the words that I want my visual branding to represent... -- emotional -- simple, clean, honest -- romantic, soft, intimate -- classic, soulful, beautiful -- organic, natural The words I need included in the handwritten/calligraphy or typography are as follows... -- "joshua gull" -- "thank you" -- "about" -- "info" -- "contact" -- "portfolio" -- "featured" -- "blog" -- "clients" -- "collections" Additional things I'm potentially interested in the logo including... -- above my name I'm interested in having one sketched seagull outline of the bird in flight or a sketched outline of a pair of seagulls similar to the one bird or pair of birds I use on my current site but I want them to have a much more hand-drawn feel (I'm almost sure I want this) -- potentially some kind of watercolor or oil/acrylic paint smear/swatch look either in the calligraphy/typography itself or a larger smear/swatch with the logo overlayed onto the smear or reversed out of the smear (I'll be using a white background so this would make the logo white and the smear would be a different color, I'm open to any color beyond what I have listed) I'll need the logo and words in a layered PSD file (900px wide), the logo in a large vector format for scaling and also the logo in a large raster file (8.5x11 canvas at 300 dpi in psd format). I'll be actively participating in this contest with feedback to guide the designs as I am forgoing hiring a calligrapher at a lower price in hopes of getting more variety in the designs. Good luck and thanks!

Love the design...it is so simple yet classy and sheek. It appears effortless just like what I envision with the brand. The designer was very prompt whenever I asked for changes, etc.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
