simonaR got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Make the ordinary extraordinary! Photography logo needs your talent

Hi there, my name is Simona and I am launching a new photography portrait business, specialising in telling the story of a family. At the heart of the business lies my desire to capture people’s every day moments, between themselves and their environment, and to show them how precious these are. I’m after the moments we often throw away in search of something more exciting, little realising it is these moments that are extraordinary and often beautiful. My clients appreciate that we are creating artwork together and value the quality product I deliver which are beautiful prints. My clients and I spend a lot of time together (a day!) so there is a lot of trust between us. I am so excited to finally be launching this business, it is a big deal for me, and I am really buzzing to see what designs you can come up with! Words and phrases I would use to describe the brand are: Laughter, Capturing the Spirit of the moment, Warmth, Insightful, love. Target Audience: Home owning professional people between the ages of 30 and 65 who have children in the South East of England (an affluent area). They have disposable income to spend on the things they value. I want to market to people who value photography as an artform and not just happy snaps to share on social media. Values to communicate with your design: When people think of my brand I want them to feel warmth, playful, authentic, and moved by the imagery they see. I also want them to know that they are buying a unique experience that results in the creation of quality art which has been crafted with time, care and passion.
Stylistic preferences for the logo: I am after a bold energetic design, however I want it to show the other qualities the brand possess as well, such as being authentic and full of laughter. People have described my imagery as capturing the essence of a person, and this to me holds a certain magic. I wonder if this can be translated into a design? Also ultimately I want to create a luxury brand. The business model I am using is a bespoke service which is crafted with time and care, it is not a pile the goods high and sell them cheaply approach (like a supermarket might do). I want to create artwork with my clients, unique to them and one off pieces that they will treasure. There are some things that I definitely do not want in the logo- these are: camera’s or any photography kit, hearts, bows and butterflies. The reason is that these icons are too obvious (you don’t need the word photography and then also an icon of a camera), and also very overused. I think we can do something more creative and imaginative! Attached is a word document with three logos that are in line with what I am after, and I explain what I like and don't like about each one. I hope this is helpful! I have also attached a document with some of my own photographs to give you an idea of my style! Oh by the way you may have noticed that my logo name is different to my actual name - it is a representation of my family, being my first name and also my partners first name (George).

And then… they selected a winner!
Jesmin did a great job for me. Her design was original, in fact so much so, that I needed to make the contest blind so that other designers stopped copying her! I would definitely recommend her as a designer.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
