His design was exactly what I wanted. He gave me some great ideas and he very was prompt in responding to my request for last minute changes.
How ptlyons started their logo design journey
Peter Lyons Photography
I have already been a professional photographer for about three years. My first business is Lyons Imaging, a maritime photography business: http://www.lyonsimaging.com (That logo was designed here too.)
I love things HAPPENING in my photos. In my sailing photos, I love the splash hanging in the air, or the intensity of expression on people's faces. With architecture... I guess then I'll settle for things standing still!
In my new work too, I want to keep that when possible. I'd rather shoot children playing outside than sitting in a studio. I'd rather photograph people doing something they love (driving their car, playing their instrument, whatever...) than just sit them in front of the camera. I love the motion, if that's any help.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
As I seek to expand my business, I have elected to develop a new brand, rather than dilute the one I've built around the maritime market.
The new business will offer rather broadly-ranging photographic services--portraits (child, family, maybe weddings), corporate work (team-building outings, conferences, etc.), architecture, in addition to other sorts of projects that come my way. I'm not turning away money right now, and will let the business evolve into what it needs to be.
I like my Lyons Imaging logo (http://www.lyonsimaging.com) because it includes an element from that work--the headsails of a big schooner. For my new logo, since the work is so broad, maybe I need to go with something more abstract.
I feel pretty open-minded about this from the start. As the contest begins I may reference other designs I like in other contests.
There are a few things I DON'T want...
no images of cameras or other photo gear.
No images of eyes or apertures. They're overused in this stuff.
I DO want a graphic logo... not just Peter Lyons Photography in some nice font. I like a graphic icon to go with it. And I don't think I want that icon to be some stylized rendering of my initials. So if any of you can come up with something other than that, those designs may be of greater interest.
