Mattpinta got their new logo design by running a design contest:
NOT FOR PROFIT CAUSE - NO FISHING - Marine Reserves/Divesites

Community & Non-Profit
It's not a business it's a Cause to protect important Marine Environments (and help change the dive industry). As a regular diver I've spent plenty of time underwater, filming, taking photo's and just enjoying the underwater world. On almost every dive, even dives on the Great Barrier Reef, Borneo, Fiji or at home in Sydney I find fishing line, hooks (often in fish/sharks) and trash. I can understand that people who don't underwater don’t get what’s happening, but people who do really bug me. Hence the logo contest! Many would be divers & snorkelers are also fishermen, they use the dive gear to check out good dive sites and come back later to catch the fish often with superguns or fishing gear. Whist this appeals to the ‘real man’ in anyone it’s like shooting animals in a Zoo. The fish don’t have a chance. (Besides, there’s millions of miles of ocean... why fish the few places we can dive??) Popular divesites can gain protection (legally) but this doesn’t always stop it... or publicise the problem. The industry doesn’t stop it either... Dive shops sell spear guns and fishing licences at the same time as promoting environmental causes like www.progectaware.org , anything for a dollar! OK you know the issue; so what I want is a logo that combines a ‘No spearfishing theme’ with a ‘diver theme’. Both are pretty common but from searching around I can’t find anything that combines them. The design brief is pretty ambitious, bringing together a bunch of iconic ideas into a message that can be read at a glance. The best designs would be part way between a national park picture sign and corporate logo... The caption could read something like; Divers against spearing in reserves Dive Site – No Spearing No fishing – divers below It should not include - "diving for a cause" Ideally the picture(s) would say a thousand words :0) I’ve attached some designs from the web, but they aren’t mine! So make sure you redesign them and or come up with something completely NEW! Any design that wins will be in the public domain and help to get the word out and help preserve the small amount of underwater world we get to explore! Cheers, Matthew
Logo types to explore
Think Iconic, silhouette, sign/flag/logo. The best design will be a clear picture message combining all the elements. Leverage your design on dive icons of today. Make it look official or make it rage against the machine... in either case it should be something any diver/fisho will not ignore!
