JMateoW got their new logo design by running a design contest:
TEXAS Homeschooler LOGO needed for a new VIDEO SERIES

Looking to the Future
Homeschool students and parents, as well as people interested in learning about different professions through the eyes of a young person. This will all be VIDEO content... so the logo must look good floating OVER moving video. Solid edges around the logo or general design help this be easier. Also, when we talk about "kid friendly" we are focused on ages 12 to 18 since kids younger than that will most likely not be making the videos we are envisioning.
This is an internet-based video series where homeschoolers (usually in Texas) go explore and interview people in careers that they are interested in possibly pursuing themselves. It is not critical that the design be super TEXAS-oriented. Focus should be more on youth, learning and education than on Texas. Initial concepts for the logo design consistently included chalkboards, apples and Texas references in state map or flag. But we are happy to see ANY ideas that do not include any of these elements. NEW NOTES: I am NOT saying that this idea will be THE one we pick, but I would like to see something done with the idea of an icon lineup.... TX... with a graphic for Home... and another graphic for School..... Sort of the I Love New York w... I (heart) NY.... for this idea, you would NOT include the tag line regarding "future"
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Logo design starts at $429.

It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their logo design.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
JMateoW collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Quick responses. Listed to the brief and created several options that matched specifically what I was looking for and also added one that was a little more bold with color than I thought I wanted but ended up being my choice. Great experience.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
