HalberdCross is holding company with a variety of subsidiaries including a venture capital fund that funds university startups and commercializes intellectual property (IP) and a financial services company. In the future, the company will likely expand their corporate holdings to include additional business operating within other business segments.
As we progress with the HalberdCross branding and website development, the holding company will have links to the subsidiary operating companies including:
a. the brand name and logo
b. the overall brand design look throughout the websites of the subsidiaries
The target audiences for the HalberdCross businesses will be Development Directors at universities and colleges (specifically ones with intellectual property portfolios and active commercial development programs) and companies in need of financing and insurance coverage.
What is a “Halberd”
A halberd is a two-handed pole weapon that became prominent in use during the 14th and 15th centuries. The halberd consists of an axe blade topped with a spike mounted on a long shaft. It always has a hook or thorn on the backside of the axe blade. The halberd was 5 to 6 feet long, cheap to produce and very versatile in battle.
Today, the most famous use of the Halberd is as the decorative weapon of the famed Swiss Guard, the highly visible and colorful guardians of Vatican City in Rome, Italy.
HalberdCross is a trusted partner for start-up companies and will work to support their management and business growth. HalberdCross management believes that the new HalberdCross logo should be strong and clean… not a cartoon, soft, frilly or flowery.
The owners see the brand as possibly being used in conjunction with an icon to support the meaning or understanding of the brand. If an icon is used, the icon should represent stability, safety, quality and competency.
Please explore both positive and negative space. Color choices may be strong or muted or even rely on some combination of color and texture. We would also like to see optional designs which are two dimensional as well as designs which are three dimensional in nature. We would like to explore multiple aspect ratios from roughly 2:1 (two widths to one height) to a 1:1 (one width to one height).
At the end of the contest, we will require the winning designer to provide the following files in the handover phase:
1. unlocked vector file (.eps or .ai...no Corel)
2. large .jpeg file and .png file
3. Font names and file(s)
4. Jpeg Color palette showing all colors used in the logo and corresponding PMS, CMYK, RGB and HEX #’s.
5. We will check the colors and layers of all of the files to ensure that they match the winning design. Please handover matching files (we’re not being weird...we’ve had issues in the past)
