Ontario Women’s Study
The Ontario Women's Study (OWS) originated in the community among a number of community organizations that recognized the lack of understanding of the vulnerabilities to HIV experienced by women from diverse groups.
The Ontario Women’s Study (OWS) is an important, province-wide research initiative that will listen to the voices of women from diverse communities in Ontario, Canada to:
- document women’s understandings of HIV acquisition and the social, structural, racialised, gender-based and economic factors that influence women’s individual HIV-related risk behaviours;
- determine best practices for reducing HIV among different populations of women living in Ontario; and
- transfer this knowledge to decision makers at all levels of government to drive enhanced HIV prevention policies and programming for women in Ontario and Canada.
The OWS was funded by a provincial research body, the Ontario HIV Treatment Network and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the study is being managed by a large team including representatives from the University of Ottawa, the University of Toronto, Women's College Research Institute, Women's Health in Women's Hands Community Health Centre, the 519 Community Centre, Asian Community AIDS Services, among many others.
In terms of both the conduct and findings of this community-based study, the target audience is broad: women in Ontario, community and health organizations that work with women, university- and community-based researchers and policy-makers. Our study will hear from women from all over Ontario: young women, street involved women, Aboriginal women, women in the sex trade, women living with HIV, women from Africa and the Caribbean and women who inject drugs to name a few.
1. We require a bright, professional yet funky logo for our study that emphasizes HIV, women, health, community and diversity. We DO NOT want a logo that looks like it is for biomedical research or for a pharmaceutical company. This is a community-based research project and the logo needs to speak to the community.
2. The study is known as either:
- OWS
- Ontario Women’s Study
3. The logo should focus on the concepts of: women, health, HIV, diversity, research and community. An image that can encompass some of these themes would be ideal.
4. We would like vibrant colours for the logo. But, please do not use the pink, orange or yellow.
5. See the contests posted by the OHTN this year for ideas.
