MartynasKairys got their new app design by running a design contest:
App Design (Whemsy)
Check out MartynasKairys's App design contest…
This app is suited for life improvement and life. We also call that app – “place for mastering your life“. App allows our customers to develop habits/skills in a fun way. Customers choose skill/habit they want to develop, take action and check their progress. To achieve this goal Whemsy app will use various techniques like: - gamification elements: badges, leveling,.. - social driven growth : like peer pressure, competitions, .. - Active Reminders, - etc.. Idea is described in the following interview and pitch: Interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7TpARIYFzo&feature=channel&list=UL Pitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypJ3G-MOgzc
Young energy with positive emotions is what we need. Simplicity and cleanliness mixed with light colours. This app is about life improvement, so it should look fun and serious at the same time. Examples that implies us are Any.do, Instagram, Fitocracy, Foursquare Here you can look at the video for inspiration, how this type tool can look in the future: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJKwHAvR4uI
On this version there will be 3 major areas for our user to navigate: Wall, Act/Grow, and My Profile All 3 areas are designed for very specific goals: Wall: for showing my and my Peer history, there they can interact socialy Act/Grow: for Developing and Acting on my Choosen Habits/Skills My Profile: for checking my progress in various Categories, for Connecting with other people, etc.. Navigation is easy and intuitive, following allready popular app navigation techniques, like Instagram, Fitocracy, Forsquare, etc.. Major navigation element is allways at the bottom of the app (3 main Areas: Wall, Act, Me) When user gets into any of these, further Navigational Elements inside of this Area will be presented at the top part of the screen.
What to avoid
We are pretty confident of our top and bottom as navigation elements. Structurally we think it‘s good, but what we provide is just a sketch - design off course should be improved. Also we want to slightly diverge from usual social side of the app (comments and like buttons), because so many apps do the same already.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. App design starts at $849.

When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
