This app will control the Oasis, a kinetic art sand table we’re developing. While we’re not showing photography of the actual product just yet, it takes inspiration from the Sisyphus table seen here: https://sisyphus-industries.com/. It is circular with sand in the center and lights on the outside. The app at its core allows you to change the pattern that’s playing on the table, find patterns from other users, and control the lights on the table.
We’re fans of designs that are clean and modern. Much of the app should likely be grayscale without being excessively dark. We have a logo that was designed by another 99d user, and it’s attached! One idea is that the app might show a visualization of the current table. Clicking on the sand might allow you to change the track, and clicking on the LEDs might allow you to change the lighting. Another idea is a spotify esque player that plays patterns instead of songs.
There are 4 screens we’re looking to have designed. The Main Page, LED Control Page, Table Control Page, and Track or Playlist Selector Page. The interactions are defined in the attached flow chart. We’re also open to other ideas for how to organize the pages! Core functionality for each page is described below. Please refer to the flow chart for a detailed list the items on each page. Main Page: This is what you see when you open the app. It’s mostly a navigation page. Its core functionality is to show you the current state of the table and to get you to other pages. The main items should be a visualization of the current table state (LEDs + current pattern) as well as a way to access the LED and Table Control pages. It will also include buttons detailed in the flow chart. LED Control Page: As you might guess, this manipulates the table LEDs. We’d like a color picker to allow a user to choose a static color. A user should also be able to control brightness, and they should also be able to select from a list of preset special light modes like rainbow and strobe modes. Table Control Page: This allows you to modify things about the current pattern that’s running. You should be able to see the current pattern that’s running, change it’s speed, and pause it. You should also be able to see how long the track will take (a visual indicator here is better than a text indicator), and you should be able to change the track. Changing the track will take you to the next page. Track or Playlist Selector Page: This is where you see the library of tracks that you currently have. There should be a visualization of the track (placer images can be used here), and you should be able to see track play time(text is fine here). There should be a button to go to a track queue, and there should be a button to go to a community library to download more tracks. The pages described here are not all of the pages that will eventually need to be designed. Additional pages include: user account, community library, queue, and onboarding. We’d like to work with the winning designer to design these pages further after the contest. In the meantime, we’d like to see how you incorporate the navigation buttons for each of these pages as they’re described in the flow chart.
