Khamm got their new postcard, flyer or print by running a design contest:
Flyer for The Institute of Reading Development
Check out Khamm's Postcard, flyer or print contest…
The Institute teaches summer reading skills to children in preschool through 5th grade, in programs offered as a community outreach by various university extended education departments. The goal of each program is to build age-appropriate reading skills and to stimulate a love of books and reading.
What's your vision?
AIMS OF THE FLYER The Institute seeks a new design for a direct marketing flyer advertising summer reading skills programs, which is distributed to parents through preschools and daycare centers. The aim of the new design is to generate more inquiries than the flyer we currently distribute to preschools and daycare centers –the existing flyer has been uploaded. The design should also appeal to teachers, so that they will be encouraged to distribute the flyer to parents picking their children up from school. The design must also appeal to parents, to encourage them to read the flyer.. The successful design will embody the fun and excitement young children feel about learning to read, and something of the world of meaning and adventure that can be found in children’s books. We have uploaded sample images that have the right feel (“design inspirations”). TARGET MARKET The primary audience for the flyer is teachers and parents of preschoolers (4-year-olds) though first graders (6-year-olds), and this fact should guide your design emphasis. The flyer describes five different reading programs: a program for 4-year-olds and Kindergartners, a program for 1st graders, a program for 2nd graders, a program for 3rd graders, and a program for 4th and 5th graders.Inquiries from the current flyer break out in the following proportions: Program for 4-year-olds and Kindergartners: 66% 1st grade program: 16% 2nd grade program: 8.5% 3rd grade prorgam: 5% 4th & 5th grade program 4.5%
COPY AND SPECIFICATIONS The Institute’s Marketing Project Manager, Kimberly Gleaves, will be overseeing the design process and will supply specific headlines and text descriptions to be used in the flyer, and a university logo that must be prominently featured in the design. The design will be for 8.5” x 11” letter size paper to be printed front and back. The Institute will accept a PhotoShop file, however an InDesign file that can be opened in CS5 is preferred. We will distribute thewinning design in a one color version (as in the current flyer, uploaded)) and perhaps also in a full-color version. Designs submitted in color must be easily converted to black and white (one color version). Alternately, you may submit a black and white version. Within the design constraints provided here, we are open to a completely new and different design.
