Melvina Masterminds is an organization that empowers students in the arts. In September, Hannibal Buress hosted a comedy show at the famed Chicago Theatre and wanted a fun poster to promote the event, highlighting appearances by actor Lil Rel Howery and musician Vic Mensa.
The poster is a fun exploration of layering color and how important it is to have fun with photography, typography, and bold color.")

Cover for a memoir recounting one woman’s battle with multiple personality disorder. Rhonda Macken was raised by a father suffering from PTSD, consequently triggering her own battle with mental health. The design requires an authentic consideration of the author’s trauma and how her naiveté as a child proved too demanding of her ability to cope.
I concentrated around a striking image of a young girl hiding behind a mask. The handle cut across her face originally which made the image look less deliberate, so I moved it off her face to get a clear portrait. Even the subtitle, written in my own handwriting, is careful not to eclipse her presence.
What I find so engrossing about this photo is that using a mask is an act of imitation; imitation is significant in child development. In this instance of someone learning behavior, I see an ingenuous girl asking “who am I and is this who I am supposed to be?”")

Colorful and slightly chaotic. In late 2017 and early 2018, I completed a series of product labels for a limited run of wines put out under the Disorderly Conduct banner. I paired dynamic photography with high contrast color patterns to bring a bit of welcomed anarchy to the beverage aisle.")

Lord of the Flies meets Misery?
The Little Crew of Butchers is a psychological journey that finds protagonist Lucas Baird held captive by a gang of demented young boys in a small town off the coast of Long Island. The children, directed by a furious 12-year-old, turn savage, heaping hideous acts of torment and cruelty upon Lucas.
The cover was designed to represent the duality of the story: Lucas running from adulthood mistakes that eventually lead to his unfortunate capture and the reckless emotion the children exhibit, fueled by infighting with their young tyrannical leader. I wanted to avoid displaying actual violence on the cover but instead focus on the internal fury that runs through each character.")

Legend has it some surfers pray for good waves… others just pray for good food!
In Huntington Beach, California, where surf culture reigns supreme, this client wanted a logo for his restaurant that was befitting of the protective community of talented men and women who call the ocean home.
Derived from surf lingo, “Maja” meaning mother, is a term of affection often used within this community. The objective was to design a wordmark that represented the free spirit of the bad-asses who meet out in the water each day while also making sense for a professional restaurant establishment. The custom, hand-written design with unpredictable characters and wild movement was born out of the desire to appeal to local surfers as well as anyone else who may have a fiery hunger for authentic Mexican food!
This handmade logo also features multiple variations including a version paying homage to the famed Huntington Beach lifeguard towers.")

Sleeping Babys’ latest single “Nostalgic” tells the story of two friends who continually romanticize the past because of their inability to acclimate to modern society.
The artwork started out as an exploration in surrealism mixed with collage and needed to be as grandiose as the 18th century Queen used on the cover. I thought Marie Antoinette’s out of touch reputation was the perfect way to rationalize the song's lyrics with the band’s whimsical style, trading roses for cotton candy and French panniers for a medusa piercing.")
