I am an 18 year old singer-songwriter with an old rock and roll soul. I am currently a development project for a major label. My music idols are Bruce Springsteen, Max Bemis, Tom Waits, Elliott Smith, Damien Rice, The Goo Goo Dolls, Conor Oberst, and more. I am a very independent person, but certainly not a hipster. I try to be honest with myself in everyway and laugh inside at those who are not. A lot of my songs speak about growing up, broken hearts, love, beliefs, causes, my place in this world, and girls girls girls. I guess growing up for me is a challenge. My voice is somewhat raspy and I've been compared to Johnny Reznick from the Goo Goo Dolls in that respect. I went to a Jewish high school but I am not religious--ah yes-another contradiction to write about. I love old movies, especially anything with Paul Newman or Woody Allen. I write in cursive. I love jeans and lots of jewelry. I am without tattoos but find them compelling. My blood often boils quickly but I am sensitive and passionate. I think I'm addicted to love. It's a little scary. Some of my friends call me Romeo. "Romeo and Juliet" and "The Great Gatsby" are my favorite books.
Teenagers and college kids. I was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Potomac, Maryland. I am very close to my family. I am currently a Freshman at Syracuse University. I have that raspiness that Tom Waits and Springsteen have. I often sing about love, broken hearts and growing up, which are experiences my contemporaries and other generations relate to easily. I love to tell stories in my songs. Most of my songs are clean but some can have mature words and images. I'm not afraid to write and sing about images that others may deem inappropriate, and I will remain honest with my music and poetry. I try to be authentic and listen to my inner voice. My target are those who want to hear something that does not conform but is still rock and roll. My music is fun, honest, full of stories and from the heart.
Here are some videos about me:
I want to be able to attach a youtube, twitter, and facebook fan page account to the site. I also want it to be linkable to itunes.
I want my page to represent who I am. I am an 18 year old fun loving kid who enjoys rock'n, singling about love, broken hearts and growing up. I'm a teenager who is just trying to stay above the bullshit.
I write in cursive and I'm very messy, but I want things to be legible. I hate modern things, I'm really into old rock and roll. People who inspire me are Tom Waits, James Dean, Bruce Springsteen, Max Bemis, basically people who I deem to be genuine in their lyrics and performances.
If everything could be analog opposed to digital, I'd probably be way happier. At least that is the case with my music equipment, it needs to be analog.
My normal outfit: Converse low tops/Frye motorcycle boots, Ripped Jeans, a rock tshirt or a white tee, a hoodie over that, my piercings and rings and necklaces, and messy hair.
I have really deep blue eyes and been told I'm sexy so something showing that can't hurt. From what I've heard, girls sometimes think I'm a "badass", even though in reality I'm not. While I am honest in my lyrics I do want acceptance with a large audience and am pragmatic re same.
I like neutral/faded colors. Blues, Browns, Blacks, Grays, Whites, maybe a little silverish greens or faded maroon, but I like colors that look like they are worn out.
Speaking of which, I'm not into used things. I hate thrift stores, but I like things that have a lot of wear to them.
My EP, (which is almost complete) has songs with themes like growing with love, growing from love, distance and space, maturity, and discovering who I really am.
The requirements are to upgrade an exisiting myspace page:(www.myspace.com/andygruhin) that will deliver my music and be interactive while representing who I am. I have a fan page on facebook and that should be incorporated.
