How Cleario started their web page design journey

Summary

A simple competition. We need a designer that can focus on the creative part of creating a fun design for our web 2.0 community. We need a colour scheme and some styling to a completely pre-defined layout.

Company name

KGF Community

What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?

Design mockup »

Feel free to break any of the guidelines below. Hell, just view
our mockup and fix it to be what you'd like it to be. The key phrase: "web 2.0 community".

This is the web site of the KGF Community, a local academic
community of roughly 600 members. We manage a lot of different events
for KGF members, ranging from concerts and performances to drive-in
cinemas and paintball games.

The way we envision the design of the KGF community site is, in principle, that:
- It's fun. Bright colours are okay. Or not. Your choice.
- It's simple. We're not specifically looking for heavy gradients, rather a nice colour scheme that makes people comfortable.
- It's chilled. We're not anxious to sell anything. Aim for uniformity rather than individual elements that stick out.
- It's web 2.0. We love simplicity and style.Don't stick to the mockup like it's the law. Yes, the mockup
is there as a general guideline. As the designer that we're not, if you
see a smarter way to present things, you have got to show us what
you're thinking. (That is not to say that changes to the layout are in
any way mandatory.)

The different heading colours are not meant as a guideline in any
way (they could all be the same colour in the design), we just do it to
make the separation of different kinds of content clearer.

Only catch is... it needs to be possible to remove the
sidebar, the four vertically aligned boxes or the two boxes at the
bottom without breaking the design entirely.

We know just how annoying it is not to receive feedback for something you're creating, so we will be active in guiding designers throughout the competition.

Wants

- A good colour scheme.
- Styled header area in a nice colour branded with plain-text "KGF Community" and a search box.
- Styled navigation bar.
- Styled "Read More" links.
- Styled content boxes with headings and borders. A content box being one of those "Top Videos", "Anecdote" and "Latest Pictures" that are spread all over our mockup.
- Integration of those components into a harmonic design, maybe with some nice background and other effects as required.("Styled" means colours, effects, relevant borders etc. applied.)

Don't want

- Special effects fonts anywhere else than in the navigation bar (where they're a-okay).
- Capital letters of rainbows.
- Comments on how 'Parockeling' is not a real word, let alone a sport.
