mdeniston got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Enviro Accounting site to feature programs + engage landowners & conservationists
Check out mdeniston's Web page design contest…
Our clients work feverishly to improve our natural spaces & species -- Lake Tahoe, the Colorado River, Pacific Salmon, Sage Grouse, to name a few. They are pioneering new, market-driven approaches to achieving their conservation goals -- approaches that bring landowners and developers to the table, along with conservation non-profits and agencies. These clients include American Rivers, Environmental Defense Fund, California Cattleman's Association, The Nature Conservancy, private and public land banks, watershed councils, land trusts, and state-level depts (e.g. Fish & Wildlife, Ecology, Agriculture). These clients need a way to reach their target audience -- local citizens, farmers, business owners, policy makers, environmentalists -- to inform, and hopefully engage them in their programs. They need websites. We are creating a platform that lets them do that easily and quickly, that lets them update their own content -- copy and photos, documents, maps, structured project information, structured program results (that can be charted/visualized). We ourselves are technologists and business owners committed plying our skills to improve our natural spaces & species. We are Sitka Technology Group of Portland, OR and Environmental Incentives, of Lake Tahoe, CA. We are very capable software/system designers and developers, but do not have graphic/visual design skills. You are the ninja-class visual designer that we need to create a common visual treatment for these sites. Specifically, we want a single home page template and a single sub-page template to be used by multiple clients for multiple conservation programs. Codename for this project: Armstrong http://www.sitkatech.com/
https://armstrong.sitkatech.com/Program/Index (very early start of the overall program site) https://armstrong.sitkatech.com/Program/Home/1 (a home page for one of the programs) https://armstrong.sitkatech.com/Program/Display/1/Overview (a sub-page for the same program)
colors - at least start with our client's branding - observable here: http://www.enviroincentives.com/http://enviroincentives.com/dev/ (new site under dev) But please don't let yourself be too restricted with these. Given the conservation/restoration space, using earth tones is probably a good idea, with perhaps a high contrast color or two in the palette for highlights/emphasis.
1. Homepage - should be rich, engaging, likely with high-quality photo 2. Subpage/Internal page - needs to reflect visual treatment of home page, but maximizing space for dynamic content is very important. To reiterate, the site content will be very dynamic and data-driven, so that needs to be kept in mind as you create the visual design and layout. We expect image assets and a "spec" that calls out the visual design elements, layout details, typography, etc. (pseudo CSS).
What to avoid
We don't want interaction design - we'll do that ourselves. We don't want CSS - we'll create that from what you give us. Keep it open and inviting, and thus avoid dark, overly-styled, overly-clever designs. Typography should also be open (avoid serif fonts).
The main goal for the "updated" visual design is to have the design appear more professional, polished, and clean. Please look at the attached PDF for wireframes.
