Cosmetics & Beauty
I am freelance journalist looking to create a website that features a portfolio of my past work, an about me and contact me section, and most importantly a beauty blog section.
I like the simplicity of Sali Huges' website: http://salihughes.com/ I like the sharpness of Sophie Lopez's site: http://sophielopez.co.uk/ I like how the images from the blog articles are set out on the homepage: http://www.fleurdeforce.com/ - however I don't like the overall look of this website as the pink background looks too much like a fill effect from Word! I think this website is very stylish: http://www.laramyall.com/
The homepage: I would like the homepage to feature my name (Shelley Portet) and four images linking to the other sections of the website (About, Portfolio, Beauty Quest Blog and Contact) The blog homepage: My blog will be called the Beauty Quest Blog - seeking out the best beauty products available. I would like to have the most recent blog posts displayed using images like the homepage for this blog http://www.fleurdeforce.com/. Above this I would like to divide the blog content into the following categories; skin, lips, eyes, nails, beauty accessories and fragrances. I would also love to have an image of a make up bag that visitors could click on to see my current favourite products with links to the blog articles written on those products. The blog entries: The blog entries will be a mixture of text and images. The portfolio: I have links to online articles as well as images of scanned print articles. The articles fall under the following categories; news, comment, features, interviews and photo stories. The about/contact pages: Although two separate pages, I expect that these will look the same just with different written content.
I have attached a quick attempt I had at setting out my homepage. This is a rough guide as to how I would like it to look but I am open to variations. I have also attached a rough sketch of how I would like the blog homepage to look. I have uploaded 5 high res images of me which you can use in your designs - they don't have to be used but several designers have asked for them so here they are! I uploaded 5 because I think they could be chosen for different reasons. I think the second image of me with peach lipstick might be best to go in the about me image box for example. Essentially I want my website to look sleek and fashionable. I want to use the website as a platform to launch a career in women's magazines. On the pages of the website that aren't the homepage I would like a navigation menu to make it as easy as possible to find their way round my site. I am getting a logo designed to head up the homepage (I've borrowed a logo of a journalist from another site to indicate what I mean on my mock-up) and another logo to head up the blog homepage and blog entries. If you could incorporate space for a logo that would be much appreciated.
